The pectin in figs cleanses excess cholesterol when it enters the digestive system and facilitates its removal from the body, lowering blood pressure. Fig tree does not blossom. In order for the tree to bear fruit and to fertilize it, male figs, also called caprifig, are distributed across the orchards. During the fertile season, the fig trees are fertilized by the flies that come out of the figs and they start to grow fruits. In order to make the jam, which is very popular in our region, we collect the figs while they are still raw and green. We cut off the heads of the stems and boil them. We attach the cloves, add syrup and make jam from the green caprifig balls. It is labor intensive, not an easy task.
